The unit is light in weight (34 grams / 1.2 ounces) and super-compact in size (48.5mm / 2 inches). This provides flexibility and mobility when you're shooting – so much so that there's no need to detach and reattach it between shoots. The back of the microphone won't touch your forehead when you're looking through the viewfinder, and setup is easy even with gimbals and grips.

When you attach the ECM-G1 to the MI Shoe of any of Sony's compatible cameras, power is supplied directly from the camera to the microphone. This lets you handle extended shooting sessions without the microphone battery running out.Microphone out jack compatible with a wide range of devices
Connect to your laptop or other deviceA microphone out jack is provided on the side of the microphone. This can be used with cameras, PCs, IC recorders and other compatible devices that have plug-in power but do not have an MI Shoe. A recording cable is included. -

The MI Shoe of compatible cameras serves to supply power directly to the microphone, so you don't have to worry about microphone batteries running out of charge midway through a shoot.
